This design is the first revolutionary step for AR mag capacity in years; before the Surefire mag the only way to hold more than 40 rounds in queue was to use a drum, but not anymore. Surefire's patented design allows the staggered ammo column in a standard AR15 GI magazine to double. They accomplished this with a milspec anodized aluminum body, followers that nest into one another as the magazine is loaded, and cadmium coated springs for reduced operating friction. The Surefire 60 is about the same width as two GI magazines, so they fit most dual-magazine pouches that conventional drums will not work with.
